My Military Moment AKA A Huge Faulk'n Night.

Some of you may know while others don't, but I recently retired from the United States Navy. The Carolina Hurricanes have teamed with Martin Marietta to have a military moment, where a veteran is honored on the ice during the pre-game festivities, and I was fortunate enough to be honored on February 18 on Military Appreciation Night of all nights. To make matters better Justin Faulk was involved in the ceremony

Unbeknownst to me I was nominated for this award some weeks prior, and when the team contacted me I was over the moon. The organization invited my wife, daughter, and I to see the Canes take on the New Jersey Devils. That was the best part because even though I have taken my wife and daughter in the past it was the first time we have all went as a family, and since I am a husband and
father before everything else, that was my favorite part of the evening.



When I made it to the ice I was presented with an encased American Flag while my awards were being read, and even made it on local TV. I wasn't going to miss this opportunity tell Justin Faulk how big a fan of his I was, his reply was " and I am big fan of yours, Thank you for your service!"



Another big thrill for me was being invited down into the fan tunnel to welcome the team back on the ice, before the second period. I didn't video tape this because I wanted to live in the moment and watch my daughters face as the players walked by and tapped her hand. The Canes ended up losing in OT on a fluke goal with 22 seconds left, but that didn't ruin what was an Amazing night provided by the Carolina Hurricanes. Thank you for reading and Redvolution

Forgotten Canes: Mike Commodore and his bathrobe.

Whether he is flying up the ice with his trademark red afro flowing behind him, warming up during the pregame of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his bathrobe, or continuing his personal feud through his entertaining Twitter Account ( seriously folks follow this guy on Twitter @Commie22) with Maple Leafs Coach Mike Babcock eccentric would be a fair word to describe Former Canes Defenseman Mike Commodore. Commodore signed with Carolina in 2005 after bouncing between the New Jersey Devils and Lowell Lock Monsters (AHL) the previous 2 seasons A staple on the blue-line during the  Stanley Cup Championship of 2006, Commodore was a hard nosed stay at home defenseman Commodore was second amongst defenseman in points with during the magical season that was 2006. Commodore provided the physical presence needed serving 138 penalty minutes while remaining second on the team in +/- at 10. It's Cardboard Therapy!

     Dont thank me for my service! I did not join for gratitude! I was a 23 year old single dad who had ran out of options to support his son. I needed an escape from a bad situation and the United States Navy provided it for me. Now 12 years later I along with many other veterans battle the long term effects of what at time can be crippling Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).In my daily profession it was implied that I should not write about or discuss my PTSD because it could make people uneasy and uncomfortable around me! While my internal response  was "You think it's uncomfortable hearing about it?" "Well try fucking living with it every day!" Nevertheless I heeded the warning and stop sharing my experiences via social media.
