Writers Note: I am not a NHL Draft Guru, Expert, Prognosticator or Analyst. Having limped to the season's finish line without a General Manager, the team only regressed further when Head Coach Bill Peters resigned on April 20. However, On April 28th during the NHL Lottery it seems as if the Canes had a stroke of good luck when they secured the Number 2 overall draft pick ( Last time they picked number 2 they drafted a guy named Staal and he was pretty good) in this summers entry draft. This past Friday Hurricanes coach Bill Peters resigned in order to take the coaching job with the Calgary Flames. Once again and for the third time in the past ten seasons, The Carolina Hurricanes are searching for their next head coach. Now there are several potential candidates out there, and I am aware that hiring a General Manager should be this teams first priority. However, here are a few of the men I would like to see considered ( and one I wouldn't touch) for the next Carolina Hurricanes Coach. STAY AWAY FROM: Rod Brindamour In my last blog post I mentioned how it seemed rather "Bush League" for the team to continue hanging on to the 2006 cup run. I understand Coach Brindamour played an big roll in that cup run and in all reality should have been awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for his efforts. The 2017-2018 Carolina Hurricanes Hockey season is over and the playoff drought continues for a 9th straight year. The team has been mired in inconsistency and mediocrity, and this season was no exception. From the opening night Overtime thriller against the Wild, to the third period meltdown vs Boston in March the team never seemed to maintain hold of the elusive playoff position. Like every fan of every team I have composed a wish-list of things I would like to seen done in Raleigh to change the hockey culture in Raleigh. You say the name Justin Williams to the casual NHL fan and more than likely they will mention his legendary Game 7 record. It is a known fact that teams with Justin Williams on their roster are 7-1 in playoff Game 7's and Williams has an NHL record 14 points in series deciding games. Those well known Game 7 heroics began in Raleigh on June 19, 2006 when Justin Williams scored the Stanley Cup Clinching goal to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Justin Williams first stint in Raleigh lasted from 2003-2008. Playing in 265 games Williams scored 201 points ( 81 goals, and 120 Assists) along with 217 penalty minutes as he helped bring the Canes their only Stanley Cup in 2006. Known for his physicality and propensity to mix it up in the ugly areas of the ice Williams hard style of play made him revered by the Caniacs, and reviled by opposing teams. To this day he is routinely booed in Montreal due to an incident with then Canadiens Captain Saku Koivu i
