The Carolina Hurricanes Next Coach is Rod Brindamour of the same?

For the Past Three Days I have stared blankly at the computer screen trying to formulate words into sentences to express my sentiments about The Carolina Hurricanes recent announcement that their new Head Coach would be long time Assistant Rod "The Bod" Brindamour.
When I started this blog I swore that it would only discuss my beloved Hurricanes in a positive fashion, and I intend to keep it that way, but this decision by the team makes it very difficult. I mean seriously didn't the powers that be read my post titled " Another Fork in the Road"?*cough shameless plug cough* (http://thecaniaccollector.blogspot.com/2018/04/another-fork-in-road-search-for-next.html) I specifically recommended that they stayed away from Brindamour! However since the Canes tend to operate like the lovely ladies in my life, by never listening to my ideas and me not having the power or nerve to say " I told you so!" I must find the positives in spite of my unhappiness.

The Pros:
A consistent and full time Captain was immediately implied but not  named.
Coach Brindamour started his tenure off with a bang putting an end to the shared custody Team Captaincy debacle that was last season. It has been widely speculated that the team captaincy will be former Brindamour teammate, protege and three time Stanley Cup Winner Justin Williams. This makes me happy for a few reasons. One being I can show this absolutely ridiculous card I own once more. Two being he has won elsewhere is a clutch performer, and could serve as the on ice coach such a young team needs.

As a former pro himself he provides an on ice perspective based on experience.
Youth and Potential have been the words of the day the past few years in regards to the Hurricanes. with up and coming forwards loaded with potential in the likes of Sebastian Aho and Tuevo Teravainen. He can provide teaching based on his borderline Hall of Fame Career of experience.

He is a Player's Coach.
Having had the privilege of attending practices and pregame skates at the PNC Arena I have seen first hand how he relates and works with the players, so the relationship is there and doesn't need to be built.

While in my eyes these are all solid reasons to be happy, please allow me to list my areas of concern.

The Cons
He has zero head coaching experience.
Rather you choose to admit it or not, a great player does not make a great coach. Wayne Gretzky failed as a coach and he is literally named "The Great One". Brindamour has no experience at any level being the man in charge. Granted he has been an assistant for seven years, but they haven't been the most glorious years( remember the team is in a playoff drought creeping up on a decade). Not to mention there are two Stanley Cup Winning Coaches in Dan Blysma and Darrell Sutter still looking for work.

His work as an Assistant Coach at times has been underwhelming.
Last year he ran the power play and that at times was crap on ice. Finally as I have asked numerous times before, he has been an assistant for 7 years and the team has had no success. This leads me to ask is he has had all the answers why hasn't he passed them down the bench? I understand and comprehend that it is in fact the head coaches final say, but he has coached under three differenthead coaches and the team has yet to see success, and before you start saying " Well he needs the personnel", allow me to remind you an inaugural team is playing in the Western Conference Finals this year.

A Failed tenure will tarnish his legacy
This in my eyes is a huge con. Anytime a team hires a legend to coach their former team I often ask myself "How do they fire that guy if things don't work out?" In this case Brindamour's Jersey is in the rafters and there is no sweeter image than the one of him lifting Lord Stanley's Cup in 2006. However, if he fails as a coach and the fans turn on him like fans are known to do, then what does that do to his legacy?

The pros and cons are of equal value in this case and only time will tell. The team still needs a General Manager and has to make a huge decision on who two draft number two overall next month.
So once again they leave us with more questions than answers! Thanks for reading and #Redvolution!
