About Last Night....( I'm as mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it anymore)

One of my favorite movies of all time is the movie Network and there is a pivotal scene in the movie when lead character Howard Beale played by Peter Finch loses his composure on the air and encourages everyone to go to their windows and proclaim "Im as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore. Last night's meltdown loss to the Washington Capitals brings me to say very loudly. THE ONLY THING IN THE NHL MORAL VICTORIES GET YOU IS SENT HOME IN APRIL.  CELEBRATING GETTING ONE POINT IN THE STANDINGS WHEN YOU SHOULD OF GOTTEN TWO IS WHAT LOSERS DO! THAT IS THE CULTURE THAT PERMEATES THE CAROLINA HURRICANES ORGANIZATION.

In April after the hiring of Rod Brindamour as the new Carolina Hurricanes Head Coach I posted a blog title Rod Brindamour of the Same and my email was filled with some rather rude, insidious and hateful comments. Now I am not here to say I'm right but after last night's game and piss poor shootout selections followed by the asinine explanation I feel vindicated in my earlier assessment.

With that being said allow me to address a few issues I noticed first hand last night.

The Booing when Scott Darling's name was announced.
Listen! I know he has been bad, you know he has been bad, he knows he has been bad. It's no secret! However, he was  who the team put in net last night and based on the fact we love the team he deserves our support and booing him is bush league and tacky.

Fans need to stop selling their tickets to fans of opposing teams.
This is a personal peeve of mine. I'm tired of going to home games and feeling like Im in a road atmosphere. Season ticket holders need to stop selling their tickets to opposing teams. When Ovechkin got his has trick. Home ice was littered with hats as if the team was playing in DC and the seats surrounding the glass were littered with Caps fans. A disheartening sight to say the least.

We need to stop making excuses for this team
Last night's game was a 6-5 affair. Yes we know that one goal was blatantly illegal due to interfence. I have never seen a defender get blown off the puck by another skater and the play not whistled dead. That call was god awful and that's understood. However, that goal cut the Canes lead to 1. It wasn't a game winner. Also Darling is not responsible for this one either. How many times was Ovechkin left uncovered for a shot from a spot on the ice literally called "Ovies Office". It wasn't the refs last night it wasn't the goaltending the team pissed this one away, and it starts behind the bench.

WTH was up with the shootout selections
The game went into a shootout, a game in which Sebastian Aho and Tuveo Teravainen combined for 6 points. So surely they would be number one and two in the shootout right? Wrong! They were not even used. The Capitals sent out their top 6, meanwhile Brindamour does not even send out a who's who of shooters but mores like a who cares? Opting to use Janne Kuokkannen, Jaccob Slavin who lets face it has the most predictable shootout move, Phil Di Guissepe, Dougie Hamilton, Brock Mcginn, and Justin Williams. Leading me back to my original statement of It starts behind the bench.

All these opinions may not be popular, but they are mine and I own them. The team is stale and staggering, and in dire need of a culture change. I don't know how to fix it or what to suggest. However, something must be done or this team will be mired in mediocrity for eternity. It is embarrassing to the fans and a waste of the prime years of some fine young hockey players. Thanks for reading and redvolution
