Mr. Hurricane: Presenting the Case for Chad Larose

 

  


     Over the course of hockey history many writers have debated who would be the historical face of each NHL Franchise. While the true topic of Mr. Hurricane would be hotly debated between Rod Brindamour, and Ron Francis with this writer giving the edge to the current Canes Bench Boss Rod Brindamour. I would like to propose a dark-horse candidate for Mr. Hurricane into the debate, that candidate is one Chad Larose.

     Now before the critics of the internet crucify me for sharing my opinion on my personal blog.( I mean how dare me right?) I would like to say that this assertion HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH INDIVIDUAL CAREER STATISTICS. Chad Larose has the unique distinction of playing for every team in former Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Compuware Hockey Organization.


     After a sturdy USHL career with the Plymouth Whalers where he set a USHL single season goal record with 61. Larose went undrafted in the 2003 NHL Draft, and signed a free agent contract with the Hurricanes affiliate The Florida Everblades of the ECHL His time there was short lived as he was promoted to the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters halfway through the 2003-2004 season. After 2 and a half strong seasons in the AHL Larose who had developed into a decent scorer that provided a strong punch on the fore-check was promoted to the main roster of the Carolina Hurricanes half way through the 2005-2006 Stanley Cup Season. Larose appeared in 49 games during the 2006 Cup run scoring 13 points ( 1 goal and 12 assist) and added 1 goal and 1 assist during the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs.

     For the next seven years Larose was a staple of the Canes lineup in Raleigh appearing in 508 games scoring 180 points (85 Goals and 95 assists) His time in Raleigh ended when he was sent down to the Charlotte Checkers in 2014 completing the gauntlet of having suited up for every time with the Carolina Hurricanes organization. After failing to reach a contract agreement with the Orlando Solar Bears ( Not A Canes Affiliate) in 2017 Larose announced his retirement from hockey.


     Chad Larose will never have his #59 sweater hanging in the rafters, but he was a steady contributor to the ENTIRE Hurricanes organization and his name is engraved on the most treasured prize in professional sports the Stanley Cup. While his case for Mr. Hurricane is just this writer speaking in hyperbole, Chad Larose plays an exclusive and integral part in the history of the Carolina Hurricanes. Eric Staal is the most Underappreciated Hurricane of All Time

  Eric Staal 2014-2015 Upper Deck Premier Rink of Honor     In case you did not hear already, Carolina Hurricanes Legend Eric Staal has been named the Captain of The Canadian Men's Olympic Hockey team. I tell you that to tell you this, beyond being a Justin Faulk Collector I also collect Eric Staal. The Former 2nd Overall Pick (2002), Stanley Cup Champ, the arguably legitimate Conn Smythe Winner with 28 points in 25 Games, and former Hurricanes Captain has managed to etch out a borderline Hall of Fame Career.   However, even with all that listed I would argue that Eric Staal remains the most underrated and underappreciated Carolina Hurricane of all time.  Why? Eric Staal's captaincy happened in the midst of turmoil. Having it given to him with the stripping of perennial favorite and current Canes Bench Boss Rod Brindamour's Captaincy in the middle of the 2010 season.      Dont thank me for my service! I did not join for gratitude! I was a 23 year old single dad who had ran out of options to support his son. I needed an escape from a bad situation and the United States Navy provided it for me.
