Don't Be A Complainiac: You Can't Blame Officiating

At the time of this writing The Carolina Hurricanes are staring down the barrel of 0-3 deficit to the powerhouse Boston Bruins ( I say powerhouse because if it wasn't for the Tampa Bay Lightning's regular season dominance this team would of won the Presidents Trophy).
While I am over the moon with the Canes playoff run I hear Complainiacs around me blaming the officiating for the teams current state, and I am here to tell you that is NOT the case.

The teams current state of affairs lies within two simple words that have plagued them the entire season. Those words are the Power Play! Throughout the first 3 games of the Series both the Hurricanes and Bruins have been on the Power Play 12 times. The difference is the Bruins have found the back of the net 5 times (41%), while the Hurricanes have found it once (8%). There in lies your problem. Its a simple fact if a team can't convert on the power play they can't win in May and June!

Now let's address Brad Marchand ! Brad Marchand is a pest, it's a known fact he loves agitating people. However, Justin Williams took the bait! It is also a known fact by anyone who has ever played a sport that the officials will ALWAYS see the retaliation! So why did Williams retaliate. Now while completely ignoring  the Captains meltdown in Game 3, allow me to address the question you are probably thinking right now: " But Mr CaniacCollector why wasn't Marchand called for Slashing him in the neck with his stick?"
Did he really? While it looks like it was a high stick at full speed the slowed down footage shows different. Regardless of this fact Williams needs to maintain his composure, as it has been shown the whole season this team feeds off the energy of their captain, and besides Dougie Hamilton has taken a few liberties too this series. If you don't believe so go back and look at the cross-check after Danton Heinen scored in Game 2 and tell me if you still think he has played a clean series.

The series has been tit for tat with both teams playing with an edge, that's what playoff hockey is right? Calls have been missed on both sides, the only difference lies within the effectiveness of the Power Play. However, if the series ends tonight or over the weekend this teams has no reason to hang their heads! This playoff run has been wonderful, and is the equivalent of a 13 seed making the Final Four in Basketball. Besides if anyone would of told me in December we would be here in May I would of laughed at them because the team was awful! So let's just enjoy the ride, and realize that this team has a bright future ahead of them regardless of this series outcome. Thanks for Reading and Redvolution
